Where It All Began
They say in order for someone to come into their own, to find the path they were meant to lead, your elders need to leave…
This happened to me with my dad Luigi. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been creative. The first time I painted something my dad couldn’t stop calling me his Michelangelo…I would laugh every time he called me that because it was far from the truth, but that is how he saw me and that meant the world. It made me think there wasn’t anything I couldn’t accomplish.
My dad taught me to work hard, be kind and to have a sense a humour no matter what. He was a great man and it was a tremendous loss the day he needed to leave. To my dad family was everything and when we all gathered at my parents’ home he was in his element and he loved that! No matter how many hours we were there, it was never enough. We always felt welcomed, loved and safe.
I was in the hospital early one morning waiting for an update from my dad’s doctor. As I was watching him sleep, I was thinking how much I loved him and leaned in to kiss his cheek. When I sat back down in my chair next to him, my mind started to wander. I began to think, as you do in moments like this – what should I do now and what should I call this new venture? I kept asking myself why could I never get behind the previous names I had chosen for my business that I started back in 2006. I could never find a name that encompassed everything I do and everything I wanted people to feel. I love to enhance how people feel about themselves, but how do I put this in a name?
I looked over at him and saw this once vibrant man who I adored, and remembered how he lit up every time his kids and grand-kids were around him and in his home. It was literally in that moment it hit me…House of V! From makeup to lashes to skincare, all I want to do is make people feel amazing, confident and loved, just like my Dad made me feel.
My company named morphed to Haus of V, and it has been a perfect fit ever since.
